Brief summary: The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron curtain is wonderfully self-told and illustrated book about the author's, Peter Sis, life. He was raised in Czechoslovakia during the Cold War. He has collected his own drawings, maps, and memories to create his story. During this time the Soviet Union had taken over Czechoslovakia. As a young child he was obedient and asked no questions but as he grew so did his questions. In this book he highlights his actual life and then goes on to discuss what was happening around him.
How you would use the book with students.: This book can be geared toward so many different age and developmental groups. I would use this book to discuss many different topics such as European history and the Cold War, communism, censorship, and oppression.
